You are no doubt familiar with portal axles (found on the likes of Unimogs, Hummers, and Volvo C303s) that raise ground clearance by porting the axle above the wheel’s centerline. Usually the portal ends and the axles are built as one piece. Did you know, however, that portal axles are available in bolt-on form?
A German company called TIBUS Engineering offers them for popular overlanding marques such as Land Rover, Mercedes, Toyota, and Jeep but states on their website that they can be fitted to almost any vehicle. There’s a lengthy forum discussion on Expedition Portal started by a guy that worked with them to get portals fitted to his Land Rover Defender.
