I’m not usually into guitar-heavy videos, but this one of BJ Baldwin winning the 2013 Baja 1000 is pretty awesome. The way his truck flies across the top of some of the whoops seems to defy physics. And the music is pretty decent halfway through.

The 46th running of the Baja 1000 starts tonight in Ensenada, Mexico, and winds along an 833-mile course to finish back in Ensenada on the 17th. Here’s a video with a little bit of history about the race, including—I just learned—the traps and obstacles set by the spectators.

You can also follow along at the SCORE site. They also have a live map where you track the progress of the almost 40 different vehicle classes.

Have a look at the rest of the post for a pretty cool GoPro view of last year’s race from onboard Bryce Menzies trophy truck.  Read the rest of this entry »

At first this video looks like standard travel fare: some friends going down to Baja, having a look around. Then, at 1:22, they’re in a boat petting a whale. A whale!

It’s right next to the boat and they reach out and touch it like it’s a curious puppy. And maybe it sort of is, because it’s a baby whale. Then mama shows up — she’s huge — and… everything’s still fine! It’s totally amazing to me. I know whales calve there but I didn’t know it was like a petting zoo. Is this a normal thing down there? Seems like it. At 3:30 the video goes back to friends hanging out, playing music, etc., like it’s no big deal.

Freakin’ whales!
