This 1971 International Harvester Scout 800 is described on ebay as a newly built, running, drivable project vehicle. It’s powered by a Ford 302 V-8 that runs through a 4-speed, manual transmission. From there the power is fed into Dana 44 axles. A new Holley carburetor can be found atop the 302. Up front there’s a working Ramsey PTO winch.

The truck wears new paint and a custom rollcage and hood. A top is available. The seller states that there isn’t much in the way of an exhaust so it’s loud. With an unmuffled V-8 that might be an understatement.

This truck is located in Chewelah, Washington. There are about 5 days left on the clock and bidding currently stands at $5,005 with an unmet reserve.

I spotted this 1971 Land Rover Series IIA 88 Utility on ebay yesterday. The seller states that it was treated to a $50k, frame-off restoration in 2000 at the British Northwest Land Rover Company, and has taken four Best in Class awards since that time. Better-than-new upgrades include dual gas tanks, leather seats, stainless steel exhaust, and gearing to allow 70-mph highway cruising.

This classic, soft-top Land Rover was finished in marine blue and features a 2.25-liter, four-cylinder, gasoline engine. Total mileage is just over 51,000, with 4,000 having been driven since the restoration. The condition really does look fantastic.

The vehicle is located in Lake Oswego, Oregon. Bidding currently stands at $14,600 with an unmet reserve. There are about eight days left on the auction. More photos below.

Update 5/19/2013: This Land Rover sold for a high bid of $34,250.

This tidy-looking 1978 Unimog U416 is currently on offer at ebay in a no-reserve auction. Besides the 5.7-liter diesel, 20 forward and 8 reverse gears, portal axles, and fully locking diffs, this one features a convertible top, 42″ tires, and front and rear winches. Factory hydraulics are said to have been removed but an onboard air tank for filling up the tires or running shop tools is included. The drop-side bed reveals a six-passenger bench which doubles as a toolbox.

The seller makes no mention of high-speed axles, so expect a 55 mph top speed. If driving slowly is your thing though, you’re in luck. This truck is equipped with “super crawler gears” which enable a top speed of 0.06 mph in first gear.

One Unimog owner on Bring a Trailer commented that, with proper weights fitted, his former-German Air Force Unimog had a towing capacity of 22 tons. That’s 44,000 pounds!

This Unimog is located in Tucson, Arizona. Bidding currently stands at $27,100 with about three days left on the clock.

Update 5/6/2013: A day after this post went up all bids were cancelled, which may indicate that the truck was sold offline. The highest bid offered before the cancellation was $28,500.

Continuing on the Grand Wagoneer theme, here’s a dealer commercial for the 1973 Grand Wagoneer. The narrator enthusiastically states that the rear seat is standard, not an optional extra.

It’s funny to look back at the history of the SUV. On this full-time 4-wheel-drive system, the lock-out for the center differential was in the glove box!

This looks like quite a nice rarity, a fully restored 1971 Land Rover Series IIA 109, that’s been re-powered with an intercooled Cummins 4BT turbo diesel engine. In addition to the roof rack, it’s fitted with a custom bumper, 8,000-lb Warn winch, and dual fuel tanks. From the sound of the ad and the look of the photos, this is a first-class truck.

Can you imagine yourself sitting in that clean, purposeful interior as you rumble across the terrain? The seller is asking $31,000. More images below. The seller offers a full write-up on his blog.

While this 1980 International Scout II just misses qualifying for the Relic Run, I think it’s pretty cool none the less: Tahitian Red paint, 345 c.i. V8, Torqueflite automatic transmission, and Dana 44 axles, not to mention those cool, desert-sunset fender decals. An added bonus: the roof is removable.

The seller mentions a recent restoration and engine overhaul. Check with them on the details, if you’re interested. The truck is for sale in Atlanta at Motorcar Studios for $18,900.

This is an early-70s documentary I’m watching at the moment called “Bigfoot: Man or Beast.” The film offers the opinions of both believers and skeptics, and follows a group of researchers in the Pacific Northwest as they try to catch a glimpse of one of these creatures. The film cites a string of evidence dating back to 1811 (and further back in Native American lore) as proof that there really is a population of bipedal, humanoid apes alive and well in the wilds of North America.

It even shows on-screen interviews with men who had early, now-famous, encounters in the 1920s. One reported being carried off by a bigfoot while on a prospecting trip in British Columbia. The other retells of a night he and other prospectors were attacked by a group bigfoot in Washington (after shooting at one, the film neglects to mention). It’s fascinating stuff.

Robert Morgan, the main researcher in the film, went on to write the Bigfoot Observers Field Manual offering practical advice for those interested in seeing one of these creatures up close. My girlfriend, Natalie, gave me a copy and it’s a very interesting read. He reports the creatures to be curious but wary and very clever.

Anyway, enjoy the film. It features some nice shots of vintage Land Cruisers, and a smokey, pre-EPA, tracked buggy, in action.
