Happy New Year! If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to become a better off-road rider, I have something for you to watch.

This South African enduro riding skills video shows a ton of techniques: how to hill climb, how to preload the suspension to get over obstacles, even how to scale a 6 or 8-foot vertical wall and get up a double ledge. It’s amazing to see just how smoothly these insurmountable-looking obstacles can be conquered.

Sometimes the video is frustrating, however: the announcer stands between the rider and the camera, blocking the line of sight; sometimes he says body position is important but doesn’t say what exactly that position is; sometimes the background melts like a Dali painting. The slow-motion parts, however, are really helpful. In them, you can see exactly how the riders lean, finesse, and transfer their weight to use their bikes’ power and suspension to get over almost anything. Overall the video displays some truly skilled riding.

The video I’m featuring compiles clips from the Offroad Fanatic YouTube channel, which shows techniques on adventure riding and has bike reviews as well. Well worth a look.

The folks over at /DRIVE, and their RideApart team, have put together a video of some Colorado back-country winter riding on board a KTM 990 Adventure. It looked like it was a bit of a handful in the snow without studded tires.

Good video though and some amazing scenery.

What is it like to take the bus from Kathmandu to Dolakha through the mountains of Nepal? This video gives an idea. The uploader wrote that the 90-mile bus ride took 16 hours.

No winch to get up the hills? 40 people and a rope should do the trick.

This beautifully shot video takes you off-road through the desert near Dubai on a KTM 525. A Honda XR650R rides alongside. Well done, guys!

The 2011 AMA District 37 Barstow to Vegas Dual-Sport event took place at the end of last month. This is a nicely documented and narrated recap of the 2009 event.

The two-part video is about an hour long and is a little slow to get going but there’s some great footage of guys on BMW R1200GS and F800GS bikes working their way through sandy, rocky canyons, dry river sand washes, and some fantastic flat-out desert riding, including the use of a roll chart for navigation.

Part 2, around 14:45 even shows a guy jumping his big GS over berm.
